“I recently contracted Dean Batemen to build a new home for me.

This was not my first building project but I had certainly never attempted a project while still living and working 250km away with a builder I had never met before. Having never lived in Auckland I had no knowledge of the local building industry and associated trades apart from media coverage which isn’t always positive.

From my first meeting with Dean I felt totally confident that he was the right person for the job. He took the time to drive around and look at the various sections I had viewed and discuss the pros and cons of each. In fact I settled on a section that I had previously discounted because of the slope and concerns with associated costs. Dean assured me this was the best choice and talked me through how to make the best of the site.

His contract, pricing and time lines were detailed and there were never any surprises. “We moved into our new home in March 2020 just before the first lockdown with the pandemic. It was a stunning haven during these turbulent and uncertain times. 

We had seen the house before Christmas 2019 and were the first to view it the day it was listed and were impressed from the outset. This home has been built on an existing site almost entirely from the ground up with only the original concrete pad left standing. Dean has an innovative eye for detail and design and gave the house an urban but beach feel with the use of materials and layout. 

He was wonderful to deal with and made sure exacting standards of finish were completed to a level we the purchaser were happy with accommodating our requests for some final tweaks with a helpful and prompt response. The house is a solid, weathertight, warm and cosy place to live complete with planting that enhanced the overall feel. He installed DVS, underfloor heating, the highest specs and appliances. The huge windows, double glazing and high ceilings in the living area give a spacious and floating feel amongst the willow trees and other greenery outside the windows with the awesome triple sliding doors out to a deck in the lounge which creates such wonderful breeze in the summer and opens the whole place up to the outside vista. 

Interiors are finished to a similarly high standard with flair and an edgy yet timeless feel with the choice of hardwood flooring, carpets, and kitchen/ bathroom design.

Dean is a standout builder/ property developer who has created a stunning home for a middle aged couple who want a lock up and leave lifestyle with low maintenance, but also a place to welcome friends and family to and this home has certainly provided that.
